Chi and Chi Gung 'Chi' is vital energy or life force. People have varying levels of 'Chi' depending on their state of health. It is "that which differentiates a corpse from a living being". A baby is born with a "powerhouse" of Chi and later in life this energy starts to diminish. The Chinese have developed exercises to increase one's Chi, these can make a weak person strong, an ill person vibrant and increase ones mental capacities. These exercises are known as 'Chi Gung'. Chi Gung literally means 'energy work' and is the practice of controlling and developing strong healthy Chi. In Chi Gung we start work with the body tissues which move the fluids, finally accessing the Chi of the body. Once the Chi has been accessed we use the mind to move the Chi. The Chi moves the fluids and the fluids move the body, enabling one to deeply relax and open during exercise. |
